As of 2024, Seoul still has many places where people rush by without a second glance: abandoned terminal alleys or underdeveloped areas with crumbling old buildings.
City Mural Collective was founded with a vision and passion to transform underdeveloped or abandoned areas of the city into charming and attractive spots that both citizens and tourists would love to visit.
Living in Seoul, Korea, we were inspired to infuse our mural projects with the traditional beauty of Korea by painting iconic images of Goryeo celadons and Silla artifacts on abandoned buildings, walls, and other spaces.
With this vision in mind, we researched locations we wanted to transform and approached the owners of these buildings to seek permission for our artwork. It took persistent persuasion and negotiation, but we ultimately succeeded in convincing them, as it was in their best interest to enhance the attractiveness of the areas.
Our first project commenced in the fall of 2024, near Jayang Traditional Market, an area characterized by its old and rusty buildings dating back to the 1960s and 70s.
Here is what our mural painting location looked like:

We meticulously measured the site and began preparing our designs.

Finally, on October 20th, 2024, we painted our first mural at the site, marking a historic day for all of us at City Mural Collective.
